First Mentor Visit (1/18/2021)

This past week, I finally had my first mentor visit with my mentor Ms. Kailey Gillman. The mentor visit was about an hour long, and we discussed several important topics. We started off by establishing how our mentor visits would work and how we would contact each other on short notice. Then I started asking lots of questions about Ms. Gillman’s work, and how it compares to what I am doing in Mock Trial. I even had her read over my mock trial opening statement and questions. She told me she liked that I had a lot of important parts that I am supposed to have, which meant I had done my research well. We then transitioned into talking about my Final Product project, which is coming up really soon, and I decided I need ideas for it. I explained that I talked to Coach Goff and she suggested I take a more difficult case than last time, one that requires a lot of research, then create a plan of prosecution for it. I liked the idea a lot, and brought it up with Ms. Gillman. She said she had old cases that she could give just for that. So for this upcoming week, I think I will be looking into the specifics of my proposal for this project.
